The Practice Room for Writers: The 100 Days Cohort Summer 2026
May 11 - August 19, 2026
Welcome to the practice room.
It’s inside the practice room, in those intentional, special spaces, that conservatory-trained musicians like me learn, step by step, how to practice. (Yes, really: BM, New England Conservatory; MM, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.)
Most people aren’t conservatory-trained musicians. Most people also don’t learn practice skills. Writers often aren’t taught them at all. But learning to practice builds the skills that liberate you as a writer.
Having practice skills cuts straight to the root of a lot of problems writers have.
They solve the “where do I find the time?” problem.
They solve the “I can’t get my brain to cooperate” problem.
They solve the “this isn’t working and I don’t know how to make it better” problem.
They even solve the “I just can’t seem to get inspired” problem.
The thing is, these aren’t really writing problems. They’re practicing problems. You just haven’t been taught practice skills yet. Let’s fix that.
Come join me in the practice room and learn them. Build the skills. Strengthen your writing bones. Liberate your writing..
The Practice Room for Writers: Summer 2026 100 Days Cohort
May 11 - August 19, 2026
8 seats
You’ll be learning practice skills exactly the way virtuoso musicians and other performers have done it for hundreds of years — exactly the way I was trained to do it in my conservatory education -- masterclass-style, in supportive small community and through one-on-one sessions. Intentionally. Specifically. Meaningfully.
If you want to know more about practice skills and writing first, I’ve got you covered. Between March 31 through April 28, there’ll be a 5-part series at Developmental Edits about practice skills for writers, why most writers aren’t taught them, what they do in our bodyminds and in our work, and how they sustain lifelong creativity. (Subscribe, and Developmental Edits comes automatically to your inbox.)

Practice is much more than repetition. Practice skills are a specific set of cognitive, perceptual, and psychological skills that science has shown work in tandem with our bodies’ natural neurological and physiological processes. (This TED ED talk by Annie Bosler and Don Greene explains some of the ways practice and the body interact.)
You have the desire. You have the talent. Learn the practice skills that liberate you as a writer.
$1345 includes workbook, notebook, 18 online sessions, and two 45-minute 1:1 coaching calls.
To register, email HBBliterary@proton.me, or set up a call and let’s talk.
